Crowning a coveted stretch of Steuben Hill, this expanse of mainly cleared land invites you to reach a little higher-literally-and compose the residence, or the collection of residences, that ambition has long been sketching in the margins. The vista, one suspects, will be the first thing to steal your breath.
Hilltop panoramas unfurl across the valley below, offering the sort of ever-shifting scenery that no window treatment could ever hope to improve upon. Sunrise, sunset, and the seasonal theatrics in between arrive here without obstruction, a private amphitheater of countryside splendor.
Practicality, thankfully, keeps pace with poetry. With the ground already smoothed and largely prepared, the customary headaches of taming raw wilderness are pleasantly minimized. Power waits obligingly at the road, sparing you one of the more tedious rituals of building from scratch.
Whether you envision a single stately homestead or a thoughtfully arranged enclave of homes, the canvas bends generously to your blueprint. The surroundings prove equally persuasive. Holland Heights Golf Course lies just down the lane for those who appreciate a leisurely round, while Herkimer County Community College and Herkimer High School anchor the educational landscape nearby.
ALDI handles the weekly provisioning, the New York State Thruway keeps commutes refreshingly civilized, and the celebrated Herkimer Diamond Mines reward the treasure-hunting spirit a short drive north. Land of this elevation and ease seldom lingers. Bring your vision, claim the view, and begin building something enduring.
