In 1929 Dr. Jervey & Dr. Palmer saw a need for a hospital in Polk County, to deliver babies. During the Great Depression, the 2 Doctors raised the equivalent of $3m in today's dollars and built "St. Luke's Hospital" in Tryon, NC. Two Brick Wings were added in the 1950's to expand the hospital services & continued as a hospital until the 1980's.

The County took over and ran their County Offices out of the facility until the early 2000's. After that the property declined until 2019, being overrun by vandals, kudzu, & nature. The current owners, out of love for this historic structure, took it upon themselves to begin the process of restoration.

They began by drying in the structure, replacing dozens of windows, and replacing several large sections of the Spanish terracotta tiles with new tiles, copper nails, and rafters. From there, they focused their energies on eradicating all of the kudzu & cleaning out the interior.

Once the kudzu was removed, the owners replenished the property with over 3000 bulbs, flowers, trees, shrubs, & fruit trees! The owners also had dozens of dumpster loads of trash hauled away to reveal the amazing architecture and design from the 1920's.

The interior features high, exposed ceilings with steel trusses, concrete walls & floors, 17 bathrooms, 38 offices/ rooms (Approx!) and a Large Commercial Kitchen with walk-in refrigerators!, A Dumb Waiter, 2 Elevators, Multiple Stairwells, and an All Glass Enclosed Patio.

The original magnificent structure is built out of stone. The Brick Wings were designed by local Architect Hollnd Brady and were built out of bricks made in the area. The style of Brick is called "Flemish Design" (see photo). Property has over 30 parking spaces spread out over 2 parking lots.

Property sits on 2.35 acres just off of HWY 176 in Tryon, NC and looks out over Tryon & has some nice mountain views. While many people look at the property with visions of repurposing it into a hotel, restaurant, food & bev, the current zoning would not allow that without a proper re-zoning application and approval.
